Christian Nationalism in 190 Countries?

Jim June 4, 2023 Culture/Sociology Issues

Christian nationalismChristian Nationalism in 190 countries is God’s plan? Can we find any taste of that in the ministry of Jesus? However, lots of countries have this strange thing happen. . The US is the most famous, but many countries have these Christian Nationalists. Russia is a big one.  Each Christian nationalist looks down on other countries, so each somehow hated the other even if cooperate. If the Christians nationalists take power in each country, they will each hate the other over their castle walls, or a least their chosen earthly savior will as loves his or her power.  How did we get in this mess where we love our own country over our brothers and sisters in other countries? Or think a political savior can solve our malaise

Christian Nationalism is Fuzing Politics and Religion

Christian Nationalism occurs whenever Christians feel they might gain or want political power. Back in the 1980’s a friend of mine sent me a Christian book called The Kingdom and the Glory or something like that. The book said that God chose a passionate evangelical named Christopher Columbus to found a new world under God. They show religious letters Columbus sent to Ferdinand and Isabelle, his trips sponsors. They say the letters prove he was God’s chosen man. The King and Queen of Spain wanted to spread the good news in North America, and so Columbus told them what they wanted to hear. Columbus, then, terrorized the natives to force them to find gold. Finally, Spain sent Columbus back to Spain in chains for being evil. How could such a poor book claiming Columbus was a good man become a respected book in the Christian community?

The book said God chose America among 190 countries to be his chosen nation. It is nonsense. They had to lie and distort history again and again and Christians accepted. It is still going on. Christian nationalism has no place in the Bible. Jesus was not about political power.  He lived in a time when Jewish nationalism was boiling and led to rebellion and ruin 40 years later.

Jesus Wants Us For His Kingdom

Jesus loves all the nations. The people desperately wanted Jesus to enter into this conversation, and he steadfastly refused. Jesus said:

My kingdom is not of this world.

Why then do we do that? Political power is enticing. It is exciting to try to take power. Jesus avoided that. Why do we allow ourselves to be drawn in?

If MAGA Republicans can support Christian nationalists, then every Christian in every country should be preaching a Christian nationalism against the other countries.  We must stop it. Jesus is not a politician, and he would never condone it. We cannot say “My country right or wrong. ” or demonize others. Jesus kingdom is about love.
