Jesus Came To Save Sinners
If Jesus came to save sinners, then why are we all pretending we are holy? The image shows the proud Pharisee and the lowly tax collector before God. Church and fellowship was not meant to be a place where we put on a show. It should be a place where we are safe and can be real about our doubts and failures. Real families can be that way, and we are brothers and sisters.
Fellowship needs to be a place whee we get support and not where we need to prove ourselves.
To go farther, in outreach we need to stop coming in holier then others. I got nowhere in friendship with Chinese students till I admitted how much doubt I carried at that time. The first students who drew that out of me became Christians just months later.
So, we don’t need to act sinful. We are trying to adapt to the culture of the Kingdom of heaven since he gave us. passport there. We need to admit clearly, however, that we struggle like the non Christians do.
Jesus Came to Save Sinners – Let’s Not Pretend
Jesus did not save us because we are better than others.
He saved us because he made us in his image, and loved who he made.
That we are marred by sin is unfortunate, but that God still sees who we are and loves us as we are is shocking. Let’s be real and true. We have gaps and fail God, friends and even strangers.
God refers to us as his children and children is what we are in adapting to his Kingdom. Let’s live in the joy of childhood and not be mature in hiding ourselves.
I do not mean we should slump around feeling like lowly sinners. We do good things and make God smile. We are a light on a hill giving light that comes for our loving and holy God. Let’s be who we are, a mix of good and bad that gives glory to a God who loves us just as we are.
