Power Money and Christian Accountability

Jim February 21, 2022 Church Work, Family Issues, Theology

power money and christian accountabilityPower money and Christian accountability are topics that need to be raised together. They often are not enough. I think. What does the Bible say?

Proverbs 30:9

Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’
Or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God.

Jesus said we should be a servant if we want to lead.

James 5:16

Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Sometimes, we think we should confess to those in authority, but those in authority and those with money need to confess even more for they are servants and face temptation. We need to live mutually and that means being open about our whole lives with people who can bring us back to God.

The more money and the more power we have, the more accountability we need to seek. Also, if I am poor and powerless, I need more accountability as that place has more temptations to. However, James 5:16 says we all need accountability in love.  Let’s seek it out.

Power Money and Christian Accountability Not Enough

I wrote this today as have a handful of Ravi Zacharias books, and have listened to a number of his Youtube videos. I remember wondering one time how he gets accountability as would face so much temptation. Investigators proved he was secretly a sexual predator.  I feel sad about this. He was just a man like me in intellectual thinking. Ravi proved to be more positive and more negative than me. He needed a ton of accountability but got almost none.

A key truth of the Bible is that all people are sinners. We do not just sin, but also are sinners. Thus, we need help in this life and not just a little.   We cannot see ourselves well enough, and sin will cause us to deceive ourselves. Self-deception is the most common harmful thing in this world. I hate doing it to myself. But I unknowingly do.

Only honest help from others can help us see ourselves better. We need to thank people who tell us who we are even if they do it awkwardly. We need this help so much. It is hard to give feedback. Most people are too afraid to say. When we get feedback, we need to see how hard it was to give it and be thankful as we are able.

Let’s work to get accountability and be open with safe people. Then let’s seek feedback to better be the people God wants us to be.
