Special Seat Reserved in Hell?

Jim December 22, 2024 Culture/Sociology Issues, Theology, Uncategorized

special seat reserved in hellI have heard non Christians banding about the phrase ‘special seat reserved in hell’ for someone they are unhappy with.  It reminds me of Dante’s Inferno and places of deeper Hell that he described.

The Bible says in Romans:

19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[a] says the Lord.

At base, God does not deny the human need for retribution. He simply refers to it as something humans should leave to God.

We nod to this as God clearly has a better sense of justice than we do. When non Christians hope for this special seat, they seem to agree.  They seem to want a higher power to take action against this person. Many times this could be because the person is beyond their reach to get even with. They are often referring to a hated boss or someone in the government who they are hoping will be punished after death.

Special Seat Reserved In Hell Has Truth In It

As Christians, we can run from thinking we are better than others and seek to be at peace in Christ. We can grasp we are loved, and that God made us just the way he wanted.

We do not need to get even. However, we have a sense of being able to get justice from God that causes us to pray that God could bring justice.

I refer to this on this Christian faith blog as it refers to the human need for justice and even for retribution. This is from God. People say it mindlessly, but how interesting that they say this even like people use God’s name in vain when there are so many other things they could exclaim. Chinese atheists also use God’s name in vain by the way.

God help us to trust You to bring justice and also be at peace in You and not needing to prove ourselves.
