What is Life on Life Ministry?

What is life on life ministry? I guess it is self describing, but let me dig in.

When I was in college doing ministry at West Point, I asked another ministry leader what he thought the best mix of fun and Bible study should be for guys we were one on one discipling. He said 90% fun and 10% Bible. I was shocked. I was doing 100% Bible.

at 10%, if I get 2 hours a week with a guy, we are talking about 12 minutes in the Bible. I was aghast. I thought I was being more holy as it were.  Aren’t we short changing God at 10%? Finally, I saw God was in all of the 2 hours. That was my first shock treatment.

With my kids, I did 98% life and 2% prayer and Bible time it seems.  The 100% Bible study guys did not grow as much as my kids did in Christ. What we did was life on life ministry.

Life on Life Ministry is Powerful

In the Army people would invite me to their homes for meals. I would play with their small children. Effectively, they were helping me grow life on life, and I was helping their children grow life on life. Because God has worked in us, we are Epistles!

You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

Thus, we need to share our lives:

So, we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.

What was Jesus doing having 12 disciples living with him? Life on life ministry.

He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach.

Ministry needs more than Bible and prayer. It needs our lives as it is our lives that show the gospel as much or more then our words.

When our children were small. God reached one woman with how our children related with my dear wife. She saw Christ living among them in how they related, and the the facts of the gospel, were the easy part as it were.

Let us commit to life on life ministry that we might be a city on a hill.
