Why Do We Need To Keep Reading the Bible?

Jim May 22, 2021 About Me, Culture/Sociology Issues, Theology

keep reading the bibleWe all know we should keep reading the Bible. It has the words of life.

However, it gets old. We get bored. What can be done for us? And why are we reading it as we know the stories already and hear more in Church?

Four things here:

1.Let’s not read the Bible like a text book or to know the trivia. We best go to see what God likes and does not. What makes him smile and what gets him angry. God, the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are surely one and portrayed in the Bible as real entities with likes and dislikes. Further, we gain a sense of what we as citizens of the kingdom of heaven should be like. Its culture is different just as Jesus deals with people so different than we do.

Keep Reading the Bible to Know How God Is

2.We are earthly sinners who naturally drift away with whatever we see or experience.  More of God, through His Book, gives us the sense of the culture of the Bible to push us back again and again. We need this unseen push. When I first started to read the Bible, I used my Mom’s pocket KJV Bible and read the Bible to find life every night one chapter, often reading each chapter twice.  At the end of 6 months, I found myself starting to talk in KJV English. I then received a Good News Bible from my confirmation teacher who had real faith in that mostly dead Lutheran Church. I read that every night and my English was standard while my life was changed week by week.

We Drift, Its Attitude Brings Us Back

3. I read it in different places sometimes and that helps.

The Teacher Knows more than the Student. Let’s Teach

4. I teach the Bible to Chinese people and here on the Mainthing which helps a lot as the teacher always learns more than the student. So, to get in more find someone to teach.

Do all to know God and ourselves better with His eyes. God bless our efforts to know Him better by reading and journaling.
