A Spiritual Shower

Sometimes, when my 17 year old daughter reads the Bible, she feels disconnected. I also sometimes feel I am just reading the Bible to check the box. In the morning, I take a shower. It rids me of the grime of the world around me. Further, i need to clean out the grime from inside me that has come to the surface. It occurred to me, I need to read the Bible to clean my soul of the last day’s spiritual dirt from the outside and also coming from within me.  I need a spiritual shower each day. Feeling connected is great but not necessary.

Reading a great story by some great author or learning something about some fact can be interesting, and then, we move on to other books. The entertainment or the information can be fun or interesting. Reading the Bible is not like either of these though it has great stories and information.

We go to the Bible as we are unlike God and unlike his Kingdom. We wash ourselves in the Bible to help us move toward light as much of our being yearns for darkness.

A Spiritual Shower To Clean Us Again

In the Bible I can know who God is and what he is like.  I can further know who I Am, and why I am alive, and what is the purpose of my life. So reading the Bible is not to gather cool facts. it us to know my creator and what he is like,

Unfortunately, I am drawn to my own ways and away from finding my true self.  Then, also drawn away from entering the thinking of the Kingdom of God.

¹³ “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. ¹⁴ But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

We are in a river heading toward Hell. We swim against the tide so do not go downstream. Satan, the world system and our own hearts war against us and drag us downstream. We are being washed by what we watch and read each day. We need to beware and continue to find ways to come back to the Bible.

Thus, the road is narrow and hard to find. Let’s get regular spiritual showers as often as possible.
