God answers Job -Oh My

Jim June 30, 2025 Culture/Sociology Issues, Theology

God answers JobHave you been disturbed to see how God answers Job? Why is God so tough on Job who has been through so much?

The Bible does not comment on God’s words to Job in Job 40 &41.

In the middle of Job, Job is challenging God to give him a court appearance of sorts.

God shows Job that he knows nothing and has no right for any court appearance.

Job then admits he knows nothing. God rebukes Job’s friends.

In the US, a servant leader might say Job has been mistreated to show the Devil he is wrong. How does God view it?

When Jesus walks on the water, Peter is the only one to get out of the boat. Jesus saves him when he sinks and says, “Where is your faith?” He says nothing to the 11 who did not even dare to try.

Once again, in the US today, the right leader would say — “Great job, Peter. you at least got out of the boat.” Jesus does not have that at all.

Why is Jesus so cruel to these two great men of God?

Jesus and his Father do not even come back the next day and apologize.

They meant to be tough.

Have you ever heard, “Play a man’s game, and men will come to play.”?

God pushes these great men hard as sees they are ready for it.  He knows their hearts in ways that we do not at all.

God Answers Job So Tough and has His Reasons

God pushes them hard, and they run harder than ever. Sometimes God is gentle. but to the best, he is tough as nails. He knows how to make them grow yet more.

Culturally, in that era, people did lead in different ways. It was a tougher world I think. God is not a 21st century American who we see in these old passages. That could also be part of equation.

In trial, we should cry out to God. He is our Father. We can complain, but God likely will show us that we were the one who did not understand. He knows so much more than we do even about ourselves. We need to have humility to trust that He knows why this trial has come. We often need to change course, but keep in mind that Job had done nothing wrong. God loved him and sent him to trial, and we all learn from that one case.
