Is Your Life About Power or Pleasure?
I heard it said that a man’s life without God is driven by power or pleasure. As a Christian, I find it to be true in me too.
I claim to be a mature Christian who finds value in God and not the things of this world.
However, I got married and had kids. I found if things were bad at the office, I was OK as had God. If things were bad at home, I was good as had God, but if things were bad at home and at work, I was destroyed.
Um, what about that God claim?
Ah, I deceive myself. I just think I am seeing myself with Heaven’s eyes. However, my eyes are fixed on earth and all it has.
We men, especially, are often trapped between either power or pleasure or lost in both. It is so hard for us to live in Heaven’s Kingdom with its eyes.
Power or Pleasure is With Us
My own Dad out of the disaster of his childhood became a successful businessman and city councilman who raised 4 amazing kids and kept the love of a precious woman. Yet when his business failed in his old age, and the Republican party disdained him, he turned toward pleasure that made a mess of his old age.
His life was about power and then about pleasure with little in between.
Yet, we are all that way in some ways. I am half of each most days unfortunately.
Let us look at our lives honestly and know we need to live before the cross each day to escape this life of power and pleasure. To know that God needs to save us today and not just that day. Well yes, we really need that day too.
This pastor also speaks well to this problem.
Lord help us to see and love you always. To find our value in who you are and how you made us. May we live in love and reach out to a dying world near us and far away.
