Let’s Grasp a Life Lived By Faith

Jim September 8, 2024 About Me, Theology

life lived by faith The Bible says a lot about faith and some quote may help us think yet more. How does God see a life lived by faith? Does he command it?

2 Thessalonians 1:11 says:

With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.

There is quite a bit in this passage, but here let’s see Paul promoting every deed done by faith.  Now, Paul was talking to the impressive Thessalonian Church that he loved. Would be have said this to the Corinthians?  I do not know.  Some things I have done in faith were wrong headed, and I needed to go back and apologize. However, Paul paired a comment in faith here with promoting our desire for goodness. Not everything we think is good is actually good. For example, some things I did and thought raising kids, I now regret. I had no doubts then.  Just the same, I think I should have asked God how I should handle time outs f0r example. Let’s look at what God is telling us in Romans.

23 But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.[a]

To me this verse if riveting. God is inviting us into a deeper life of faith.

A Life Lived By Faith Should Help and Not Hurt

Let’s say: Eating breakfast at 10am on the weekend is done in faith or is a sin. If so, seemingly innocuous things could be seen as sin.

Let’s think a little more. In the context in Romans, people are not sure if they should eat meat offered to idols. Paul says if you eat in doubt, then you have sinned.  If you eat in faith, then it is not sin.

You may know that I say faith is the main thing in the Main Thing Faith Blog. Jesus put faith front and center. May we also.

I nod to ‘if you doubt, then don’t do it.’  The Bible makes perfectly clear everything that is important. Some things that are not clear are clearly meant to be that way. Let’s live by faith in what we know,  and step back from those things we should doubt like hating those different from ourselves.

I don’t think God wants us to be obsessive about every act by faith, but these verses do open our eyes that God wants to be a part of each part of our lives and infuse them with faith.

I often do this blog and don’t pray.  My dream is to abide in Christ, but I make myself alone with God only somewhere in the background. Let’s invite God into all our lives and hold his hand at each part of our day. Our Heavenly Father loves us and knows we are fallen and want to do better. Let’s live by faith as best yet more.
