Our God of All Comfort
Jesus promised us below that in this life we would have trouble. Oh no, but He encouraged us and added that He had overcome the world. Further, He explicitly promises to be our God of all comfort in Corinthians.
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
Here is Corinthian quote.
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.
In a world where sin reigns and everyone must die, harm and sickness abound. Paul noted that he and his friends share in the sufferings of Christ. I am not sure if we are suffering for Christ, and I live in China. I do have a friend of a friend in jail here. I do not sense I have any risk of that and doing all I want to do.
What If We Feel Abandoned by our God Of All Comfort?
At times God is bringing the trouble to us because he loves us. I know I finally can pray more if God brings trouble to my door. If things are too smooth, it is hard to pray at all. God loves us enough to bring us trouble. Thus, we can reasonably be thankful in trouble.
Back to the topic, God will give us all the comfort we need if we are ready to receive it. I find I am not always ready to receive it. I an not always aware of the warm hug God is sending me.
Can we say? “Dear Lord, can you comfort me yet more?”
God longs to comfort us in our trials. He cares for us, and how we need it.
I remember suffering for a year, 1992, feeling God was not helping me. In fact, He had given me all I needed, and I did not believe. I kept telling God he did not give me enough emotion, when actually I had a lot that I refused to accept.
I also remember kicking and screaming when God was actually answering my prayers abundantly in ways I refused to accept. God is faithful and knows so much more than we do. Also, do look at my blog on life of my great grandfather.
God is always with us. If he is far away, I know it is me who moved away.
