When We Are Weak

Jim June 16, 2024 Church Work, Theology

When we are WeakLet’s talk about when we are weak.  Or at least I need to.  In 2 Corinthians 12:10, Paul says

For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Further, he quotes the Lord who told Paul

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

God’s power is revealed in our weakness. That is where we need to live.

I want to convince some young people around me to believe. I cannot.  Often, I am weak, but if I do my part, God is made great in my weakness. He has the heart and strength to teach them. I should not fail to do that which is my strength. However, I should openly tell of my struggles with faith and living the Christian life.

We identify with others when we are vulnerable. Weakness draws people. Our weakness and incapacity is where God works. He reaches hearts and claims people as his own.

When We Are Weak, God is Strong

Yes, His grace is shown in our weakness, and also he rises to save us in our weakness.  He is the champion who meets us in our weakness.

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

This is our God. He does not ridicule us in our weakness. He comforts us.  Sometimes, he does so by telling us to get up because He knows we can by his strength.

Yes, tells us when to rest, and when to go on. We are weak and need to rest. God is always at work. Take heart.  Do we believe him and look to him? In weakness and failure we need to turn to him. He is the one to sustain us and to save the lost. We may be at our whits end, but he sees all things well and comforts us as He goes along.

He will not let us go in our weakness. Indeed that is why Paul the Apostle says he is strong when he is weak. The truth is we are always weak compared to God. Often, we only see our proper place when we are weak.  Then, he will move. Let’s let God show His power to comfort by seeing who we are.
