Faith Expressing Itself Through Love
Faith expressing itself through love is really what God wants from us. See Galatians 5:6:
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
First, we often are drawn to put some activity before faith as a marker for our life in Christ. Through faith the doors to the Kingdom are open and light dawns. It is not our kindness or church attendance that leads us to the Kingdom.
However, here, I will spend more time on how we must express our faith. My oldest daughter has helped me see that I tend to use my intellect to try to change her mind. It does not work. So, let’s look at that.
Faith Expressing Itself Through Love is Really Needed
As an example, we can have some understanding about the Bible that is disputable. Like, the Bible does not specify how often to have communion. Now, if I wanted to convince someone that they should do it weekly, the Bible says I ought express my faith via love and not the hammer of my thinking.
Can I with softness and sympathy approach my brother to talk about such an issue even if I feel strongly about it?
Let’s move on to an example like telling my children not to have sex before marriage. The Bible is clear in this. Further. data shows it is better to wait. If I approach my kids with the hammer of my intellect, I can win the argument, but I will lose the war with them. Reach out to them to see what they are thinking. Make them safe to talk and even to talk about their failing. By expressing our faith through love, we will draw people to the throne of our God of love.
Thank God for his guidance on how to express our faith.
To actually change is not easy. Using our heart is a vulnerable task that many of us avoid as much as possible. We should tell those near us that we want to change, and they are welcome to check us on this.
Furthermore, we need to see see God and his loving face. Through Him, we need to know we are whole and clean by Christ’s precious sacrifice.
