One Way To Read the Bible With Life

Jim March 27, 2022 About Me, Church Work, Theology

way to read the bibleReading the Bible daily is a challenge for almost everyone. Let’s think on another way to read the Bible. My personality is pretty patient and habitual, so I could jump in and do it.

However, I saw a problem. 4 years after I started reading the Bible in Middle school, I had read the whole thing. How many books do you have that you read more than once? I mean if you really liked Harry Potter, you might read it through twice in a lifetime. However, the Bible is not a quick read or a fantasy adventure.

So, I had read the Bible through a lot by my 20’s and was puzzling. I saw that if we viewed the Bible as a trivial pursuit game, we were not getting closer to God. If I viewed it as a text book with facts, I was already an A student. Now what?

I then realized two things that I needed to keep learning my whole life.  1. I needed to know God and what He liked and did not like better. 2. I needed to know myself best and He knew me much better than I knew myself. See also To Keep Reading the Bible.

A Way to Read the Bible With Life

So I decided to read the Bible to learn those two things. What does Jesus get mad about? What does God love? How do they see me? What makes them sad? When do I make them smile?

That is much more beneficial for me than memorizing facts. Memorizing Bible verses is beneficial for sure and has helped me in many ways, but reading the Bible for facts was not the long-term path I needed.

We need to know our Heavenly Father and because he is different than us, it is not easy. Really much harder than it seems.

There are surely more ways to see the Bible and our God behind it better, and we should try them all to try to break through into seeing with God’s eyes.
