Higher View of Marriage

Jim July 21, 2025 About Me, Church Work, Culture/Sociology Issues, Family Issues

higher view of marriageIn Mark 10, Jesus says marriage makes a man and woman one flesh when they unite. He says no separating as God does not want any divorce. Yes, God has a higher view of marriage.

Yet, He sees us. We are sinners and marriage is a lot of work.

A Christian I respect a lot told me— Marriage is two people who do not give up.

First, marry someone who accepts God’s higher view of marriage and will not giive up.

Second, consider what it might take to succeed in marriage.

Students may study 12 years to be a doctor, yet will not seriously study 4 hours for marriage. Marriage is a holy act given by God and a much greater calling than that of a doctor. A doctor can heal my body – sometimes.

However, a good marriage blesses a whole family and many others. That blesses the next generation and even the next generation. Failure leads to generations of trouble and not just two people who get hurt. God did not create marriage in Genesis as a good idea.  He knew it was a critical relationship.

Higher View Of Marriage – Understood

My wife had to hold a relational gun to my head to get me to agree to get lots of counseling and agree to change. It was uncomfortable and had me face my own issues with vulnerablity and awkwardness. Never the less, I love that it all helped open my eyes in ways I could not imagine. Namely, over a period of years, I truly changed to be more responsive and responsible in my marriage relationship. She had been to lots of counseling. She had tried so hard. I needed to be hit over the head to wake up. Thank you for waking me up. I knew I could not change my wife, so took on changing myself- with God’s eyes and help. Also, God’s view in Ephesians 5 that I should speciafically and pratically give up everything for my wife.

Some people will divorce. They need healing and understanding. Finally, they can repent of their own responsiblity for the divorce. They need to know that God wants to bring justice before they can move.  That needs a lot of comfort and trust in God’s justice first before people’s eyes can be made clear to see themself.  King David need to realize his own sin. He comitted adultery snd murder. God heard his confession in Psalm 51. God never gives up his high view of marriage or mercy.
