Increase Our Faith!

Jim September 28, 2025 Theology

increase our faith“Increase our faith!” is the cry of the disciples in Luke 17. See the context.

3 So watch yourselves.

“If your brother or sister[a] sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. 4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”

6 He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.i think we canot im

The disciples cannot imagine forgiving someome 7 times in a day. If we take Jesus seriously, we cannot imagine either. How much faith do we need to forgive someone 7 times for the same thing in the same day?

Jesus resp0nse is compelling. Effectively, he says we have enough faith.

So, why do we sit and not act? We need to believe God has given us enough to love another, and He has.

Further, we need to move on what we know. We need to open our mouths and take a step forward believing we have more than enough to love. God lives within us.

Increase Our Faith or Believe

Yes Lord, we have enough faith and love because you died to show us how much you love and died to make us holy, so the Holy Spirit could live wihin us.

We can pick up a phone, send an email, or knock on a door, digital or otherwise.  We can even pray for those who do not pray for us.

Naturally, we also have to take care of ourselves and our families. God has done enough. Let’s act on our faith and believe we have enough.

We can also take time in his Word and in prayer to get to know this God. We can increase our faith when we know God more. He is our beginning and the end. Let’s dig in if we really cannot move.

Finally, We can ask God for what we lack. In many cases, He shows me that I already have enough, so we need to be fready for that answer. We are not poor unless we make ourselves so. Let’s get going. We have more than we think.
